Explore China’s mix of history and modernity on this tour to Beijing, Xian and Shanghai.

This is a great tour package for first timers to China. You will experience China’s mix of history and modernity from three distinct cities from Beijing, Xian and Shanghai. Your first stop is Beijing, the second largest city after Shanghai. You will explore see the Great Wall, The Forbidden City and savour the famous Peking duck at an authentic local restaurant. Your next destination will have you travel back in time to visit China’s ancient history to see the Terracotta Warriors in Xian. Then take a walk along The Bund, a famous waterfront promenade surrounded by colonial-era buildings in Shanghai. Next, you will enjoy a short day trip to Suzhou, also known as “Venice of the East”.

Itinerary

Arrive at Beijing International Airport, meet your local representative and sit in coach transfer to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Today’s tour of Beijing starts at Tian’anmen Square, the world’s largest public square. You will then visit the Forbidden City with its acres of elegant palaces, pavilions, courtyards and gardens. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. In the afternoon you will tour the Hutong District by pedicabs, with visit to local family and drum tower. After the tour, return to your hotel and rest of evening at leisure.

Today’s tour highlight is a visit to the famous Great Wall of China. Visit Beijing Jade Carving Factory followed by lunch at its Friendship restaurant. In the afternoon visit the Summer Palace and enjoy a cruise on Kunming Lake (weather permitting between April and October). In the evening you will enjoy a delicious Peking Duck dinner at a local restaurant.

After breakfast, visit the majestic Temple of Heaven where dynastic rulers of the past worshipped the gods and ancestors. Afterward, enjoy a traditional Beijing Noodle Lunch. Then transfer to airport for flight to Xian. Upon arrival in Xian, meet and transfer to your hotel and rest of day at leisure.

In the morning you will travel to visit the Terra Cotta Warrior Museum, the site of thousands of life-sized statues. Then visit the Xian Art and Ceramic Workshop before you enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, where you will also have the opportunity to see a noodle making demonstration. In the afternoon, visit Shaanxi Provincial History Museum. In the evening, enjoy a Dumpling Dinner and Tang Dynasty Show.

In the morning visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and Ancient City Wall. After lunch transfer to the airport to board your flight to Shanghai. Arrive in Shanghai and transfer to your hotel and rest of the day at leisure.

Today you will take a full day city tour of Shanghai, where you will discover the city’s past and present. Visit The Bund, Yu Garden, Old Town and the Shanghai Museum. In the evening, dinner at local restaurant followed by the Shanghai Acrobatic Show.

After breakfast, travel by high speed train to visit the water town of Suzhou. Upon arrival, take a cruise down the Grand Canal, followed by a tour of the Garden of Master Fishing Net, Suzhou’s number one Silk Spinning Factory, and its Old Town. Return to Shanghai and rest of evening at leisure.

Travel Tips

Travel documents: Passports must have 6 months validity by the time of return. U.S and Canadian citizens traveling to China must apply for a visa before entering China.

Currency: The currency in China is called Renminbi (RMB), issued by the People’s Bank of China. The abbreviation of RMB Yuan is Y. Currency can be exchanged into Renminbi in hotels or at the Bank. Credit Cards are acceptable in China. Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club International & American Express are widely accepted at department stores and high-end restaurants. Travelers’ cheques issued by foreign banks and companies can be cashed or sold in China.

Language: Mandarin is the official language in China.

Weather: The distance between the northern and southern extremities of China is 5,500 km. It has tropical, temperate and frigid zones with complicated, varied climates.Tourists can prepare clothes according to the following.

Spring: Mar – May (10-22C) Jackets, sports coats , thick woollen sweaters, long-sleeved shirts and sports shoes, etc.
Summer: Jun – Aug (Above 22C) T-shirts, short-sleeved shirts, skirts, sandals, hats and rain gear.
Autumn: Sep – Nov (10-22C) Jackets, sports sweat shirt, thin woollen sweaters, rain gear and sports shoes.
Winter: Dec – Feb (Below 10C) Overcoat, thick woollen sweaters, cotton clothing and down clothing (hats, gloves and cotton-padded shoes or winter boots for severe cold weather)

Power Supply: 220 volts, 50 cycles AC current. Plugs can be three-pronged angled, three-pronged round, two flat pins or twin narrow round pins. Many middle and high-class hotel washrooms have transformer plugs for shaving and hair dryers available, but better be prepared with an adapter plug.
